The weather, both actual and financial, has been quite up and down these past few months. So much for the adage: March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb. Erratic temperatures – 80F one day and 40F the next – affect every blooming thing. Likewise, when the financial winds seem to blow hot and cold, it is tempting to hunker down. Without a reliable crystal ball on which to base decisions, and with much in flux, it can seem overwhelming. Yet if we step back slightly and take a deep breath we can see that despite uncertainty, much remains unchanged: the need to gather and pray and support one another; the need to pay the bills and continue the missions of our parishes; and the need to continue to look to the future as we make decisions for the health of ourselves, our parishes and our society. While there is unfortunately no crystal ball, there are well-established economic indicators such as GDP growth, inflation, employment rates, and consumer spending to name a few that the BOM, like the Fed, watch and use to help make prudent decisions going forward. The Board keeps steady, experienced eyes on the indicators as well as the objectives, both short-term and long. And while the short-term performance may disappoint – along with that of the rest of the market – the Easton Episcopal Fund’s long-term performance shows that its overall health and its mission remain intact.
